Option⒈
SECOND ZANNI
This workshop guides students through everything they need to know to perform the character most commonly known as 'Arlecchino' and is the foundation of the entire Commedia dell'arte style.
Students learn the entire physical vocabulary of the character, learn numerous lazzi and begin creating their own unique zanni character.
Ideally
One hour &
up to 30 students
Option 2
SLAPSTICK & STAGE COMBAT
This workshop safely teaches students the origins of the 'slapstick comedy' style.
They learn the basic skills and stunts used in stage combat, and how to use these skills to their fullest comedic AND dramatic effect.
Option⒈
SECOND ZANNI & SLAPSTICK
Combining the fun of Arlecchino with the skills of stage combat, will mean students are able to master the 2nd zanni characters
(of which there are hundreds).
This gives them the ability to access the full comedic potential of the second zanni character.
Ideally
Two hours &
up to 30 students
Option⒉
SECOND ZANNI &
COMMEDIA CHARACTER INTRO
This 'leave-you-sore-the-next-day' workshop guides students through the 2nd zanni character, before leading into a brief introduction to up to 15 other characters.
Starting with the stock 7 and working through to lesser known, but just as important characters like Coviello, Giangurgolo and Scaramouche ...... (who can indeed do the fandango!)
Option 1
SECOND ZANNI, SLAPSTICK & COMMEDIA CHARACTER INTRO
Seems logical to combine the 3 one hour workshops into one however, this is a very physically demanding task. So we advise giving students a one hour break for lunch after the second hour. should they survive students will be able to recall up to 15 Commedia dell' arte characters along with their plot functions and posture.
Option⒉
THE COMPLETE COMMEDIA DELL'ARTE UNIVERSE
This 3 hour workshop covers the 2nd zanni and a comprehensive roll call of Commedia characters.
Although they might not be able to walk the next day students will be able to walk into their next commedia lesson ready to create and perform their own canovacci playing any character confidently, comically and correctly.
